Two young children have escaped a Melbourne kindergarten and made their way home to watch cartoons on TV.
The pair — aged four and five — were captured on CCTV hopping and skipping along St George’s Rd in Fitzroy North about 11am on Monday.
It is understood the boy and girl escaped from a playground at Isabel Henderson Kindergarten after removing part of a fence.
They were reportedly heading to one of the children’s homes, more than 1km from the kindergarten.
Their goal was to watch KPop Demon Hunters, the wildly popular animated Netflix film.
Concerned members of the public spotted the children walking alone and immediately called police, following them to ensure they remained safe.
Remarkably, the young children knew exactly where to go and navigated the busy streets on their own.
They eventually arrived at the family home, where relatives let them inside to watch television, unaware the children had wandered off from kindergarten.
Isabel Henderson director Anna Tibb said the centre had launched an internal investigation into the incident.
“This is really devastating for the families involved and for us,” Tibb said.
“We are a very transparent and open organisation, and we take these things very seriously.”
The centre has since replaced the brush fencing where the children escaped with temporary fencing while the investigation continues.
Authorities are now investigating the incident to determine how the children were able to leave the facility undetected.
