THE CRASH HAPPENED JUST SECONDS BEFORE POLICE ARRIVED..! – DRIVER D!ES AFTER SWERVING INTO AN ONCOMING TRUCK AS DETECTIVES LAUNCH A CRITICAL INVESTIGATION.

Two police vehicles with lights and sirens were approaching from behind as they responded to an unrelated incident.

A person has died after swerving onto the wrong side of the road.

A driver has been killed when they swerved onto the wrong side of the road as police vehicles approached from behind.

They then crashed head‑on into a truck in Sydney’s southwest.

Officers were responding to an urgent, “unrelated incident under lights and sirens” when the crash happened in front of them, NSW Police said.

According to police, dashcam vision showed “two police vehicles at least 50m behind a hatchback, on a long, flat, straight stretch of road”.

The crash happened on Appin Rd at Appin, on the southwest fringe of Sydney about 10am on Wednesday.

A Hyundai hatchback — travelling in the same direction as the police — crossed onto the incorrect side of the road and collided head-on with an oncoming cement truck.

The Hyundai driver died at the scene and is yet to be formally identified.

The truck driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to Campbelltown Hospital.

A critical incident team from Cumberland Police Area Command is now investigating, assisted by the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit.

Police say the investigation will be reviewed by Professional Standards Command and oversighted by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission (LECC).

Investigations continue.
