Shocking footage allegedly shows a police officer strike a man while he lay on the floor of a NSW train station.
Police allege officers were responding to reports a man armed with a knife was acting aggressively towards female commuters at Canley Vale Train Station about 5.10pm on Monday.
A 46-year-old man tried to intervene and was allegedly assaulted by the armed man.
A police spokesman said the alleged offender fled the scene by train to Cabramatta Station where he allegedly threatened more commuters.
Police found him a short time later, but he tried to flee and ran from officers who chased after him.
The man, aged 21, was arrested on a platform.

“During the arrest, police directed the man to show his hands multiple times, following the reports from members of the public that he was in possession of a knife,” a police spokesman said.
“When the man allegedly failed to comply with that direction, the officer used an approved manoeuvre to affect the arrest.”
Police searched the 21-year-old but did not locate knife and are now canvassing the area.
A police spokesman said during his arrest, the man allegedly assaulted a police officer and spat at another officer.

Police allege he also assaulted another officer at Liverpool Hospital where he was taken for assessment.
He has since been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm, assault of a frontline emergency worker, hindering or resisting police, multiple counts of assaulting a police officer, entering or leaving a restricted area without a ticket and wilfully interfering with the comfort or safety of others.
He was refused bail and is due appear in the Bail Division Court on Tuesday.
Minister for Police and Counter-terrorism Yasmin Catley said she was advised police responded to reports of a man acting aggressively, who also assaulted multiple officers.
“NSW Police have confirmed they are reviewing body-worn camera footage, and the full circumstances of the incident should be considered before further comment is made,” she said.
