Young mother Julia Brunsdon remembered as ‘gorgeous soul’ after suspected murder-suicide

A devoted young mother whose “daughter was her world” has been remembered by heartbroken friends and work colleagues after her death in a suspected murder-suicide.

Friends, former colleagues and clients have paid tribute to a young woman who was found dead in a suspected murder-suicide, saying she was “an absolute joy” to be around.

Julia Brunsdon, 23, was found dead alongside Michael Waltke, 45, in what police suspect to be a murder-suicide at Charleville on Wednesday, August 5.

Their bodies were found inside a home in King St, Charleville, more than 700km west of Brisbane, in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Police were on Friday morning yet to confirm Ms Brunsdon was pregnant however it’s understood people who knew her said she was.

Julia Brunsdon died in a suspected murder suicide in Charleville.

During the hours-long standoff with police, a blood-soaked toddler was seen at the front of the home, with a hero officer risking his life to rescue her as the situation continued to unfold.

As police continue to investigate the horrific incident, tributes have started to flow from those who knew Ms Brunsdon, with friends remembering her as a “gorgeous soul”.

A former work colleague at RESQ Employment in Charleville described her as someone who was always smiling and happy to have a chat.

“Julia was a lovely woman, she was quiet, always up for a laugh and a bit of banter, she was a very soft gentle woman,” the colleague said.

“She was a bit of a homebody, she was always doing something to her home if it was in the yard or always buying too many plants, she was just a down-to-earth woman.

“Julia was always smiling and would always say hello and pull up for a chat wherever you were, if it was the local IGA or up the street. Julia was an absolute joy to be around.”

Ms Brunsdon was remembered by another colleague at RESQ Employment, Stevie Barnett, as “sweet” and “charming”.

“I was privileged to have met Julia and work with her at RESQ employment. She told me her whole life story in a moment,” Ms Barnett said.

“She was sweet, charming, soft-spoken, gentle, beautiful, loving, kind, caring and so much more.”

A former support services client of Ms Brunsdon’s, Jemma May, described her as her best friend.

“I really still can’t believe she’s gone – I was one of her clients but we did everything together,” she said.

“We were more like friends and sisters. I was there through everything.

“Rip my best friend.”

Breana Ward, who went to the same school as Julia in Bundaberg, remembered her as a “gorgeous soul”.
