The club have reportedly cancelled a press conference scheduled for the club’s manager

The incident occurred Tuesday morning at around 9:40am local time, in the village of Fenegro.

The village is located in the province of Como, near Inter’s training centre in Appiano Gentile.

Despite attempts from the footballer to render aid, as well as the efforts of emergency services including an air ambulance, the man was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident.

The Italian police will now begin their investigation into how the incident occurred.

Inter have since decided to cancel a press conference scheduled for manager Cristian Chivu later today.

Martinez joined the club as a backup option in net from fellow Serie A outfit Genoa last summer.

He has been called into action in the league twice this season, playing the full 90 minutes in Inter’s fixtures against Cagliari and Sassuolo in September.

He was expected to feature on the bench for the club’s upcoming match against Fiorentina tomorrow evening.

But his situation is up in the air as authorities and the club decide how to navigate the tragic circumstances.

Yann Sommer‘s other backup at the club, Raffaele Di Gennaro, is currently set for a month-long spell on the sidelines after undergoing surgery for a scaphoid fracture in his right wrist earlier this month.
