ONE SMALL DETAIL CAUGHT EVERYONE’S ATTENTION AS GIGGLING PRINCE LOUIS CHARMED FANS IN A BUCKET HAT WHILE WATCHING THE COMMONWEALTH GAMES WITH HIS FAMILY.
Cheeky Louis grinned and proudly wore a Welsh cycling bucket hat as he watched action at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow today with siblings George and Charlotte and the Prince and Princess of Wales.
On the penultimate day of the so-called ‘Friendly Games’, the family joined spectators to watch a packed sporting schedule involving the world’s best competitors.
Prince Louis, now eight years old, delighted royal fans in a rare public appearance as he watched the Games alongside his siblings.

The family were in the stands for the netball semi-finals earlier today, which was a visibly tense match which decided who went through to the final playoffs for a medal.
They were later spotted at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome – where little Louis took great joy in his bucket hat – and were joined by the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.
Louis appeared animated, biting his nails, gasping and pointing in the stands as he enjoyed the game sat in between his siblings.
Prince George, who celebrated his 13th birthday last week, was pictured sitting next to his father, William.
William was spotted chatting to his sons throughout the match, pointing at the players and explaining the play.
Charlotte, meanwhile, regularly turned to speak to Kate, whispering to her mother throughout the match.

Princess Charlotte, 11, wore her hair like her mother’s in long curls and was dressed in a polka dot navy blue and white dress.
Her two brothers, George and Louis, wore smart blue and white shirts, while William also opted for a smart blazer.
Kate and William – who are known by their Scottish titles, the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay, when visiting the country – and their children also met Team Wales athletes and their families on Saturday.
Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis revealed their favourite sports as they sat and chatted with the sportsmen and women on what was the final stop of their busy day at the Commonwealth Games.
And when Welsh TV presenter Gethin Jones asked George if he wanted to see his parents team up on a tandem in the velodrome, the 13-year-old quickly replied ‘no,’ clearly embarrassed by the prospect.
The family of five received a warm welcome from the Welsh athletes and their families as they arrived at Wales House in the centre of Glasgow.
William and Catherine led their children over to speak to identical twin gymnasts Abigail and Emily Roper who won bronze medals within an hour of each other earlier in the week.
They chatted with the athletes and their proud parents for over five minutes, asking about their achievements and how they prepared for the Games.
Catherine asked: ‘And what are you doing? As Charlotte was asking, are you doing a lot of stretching and conditioning?’
They nodded and said they do a mix of both to ensure their strong and flexible.
The future Queen then turned to her youngest and said: ‘Louis, you’re perfecting your handstand at the moment.’
‘A bit,’ he said, with his arms crossed, ‘But Charlotte says I’m not very good.’
The Roper twins then asked if Charlotte can do one, and she said ‘yeah’.
When they asked George the same question, he and Catherine laughed as the young prince told them: ‘I’m rubbish at anything that involves flexibility.’
Charlotte then told them that her favourite part of gymnastics is the floor, with her mum adding: ‘Charlotte likes her dancing.’
Overhearing the conversation, William said: ‘She loves gymnastics and ballet.’
Having already learned that the young princess enjoys the sport, the Welsh gymnasts presented her with a Team Wales leotard that has been signed by the athletes.
The family were then asked to update the medal table, as two more gold medals had been won by Team Wales, with William volunteering Louis for the task.
The eight-year-old took the giant No7 sticker and placed it on the board.
He returned to his father’s side with his head bowed shyly, with William telling him well done and rubbing his back.
William, George, Charlotte and Louis then sat down with Para-athletes Aled Davies, and Olivia Breen, and 400m runner Charlotte Henrich, while mum Catherine stayed talking to the gymnasts.

The children were involved in the conversation, with Louis revealing that he recently participated in his first sports day at school and George telling them that his favourite event is the javelin.
Joining them at the table, Catherine was told: ‘Louis was saying he likes high jump.’
She turned to her son and asked, ‘Louis, you like high jump?’
‘Yeah,’ he replied moodily, prompting several of the athletes to burst out laughing and William joking: ‘That’s news to us!’
Gethin then interrupted the conversation to announce that Wales had just won another gold medal, prompting the entire room to erupt into whoops and applause.
Charlotte was then invited to update the medal tally to eight golds.
Back at the table, Catherine said Laura Kenny was trying to get them involved in the velodrome, saying: ‘Come and give it a go!’
She added, laughing: ‘I did say be careful what you wish for as they want to put us on a tandem bike in the velodrome.’
Gethin responded saying: ‘Oh please, please can we absolutely make that happen.’
Olivia joked: ‘It’s that or you have to run the London marathon,’ after William told them that former cyclist Laura had just run a sub-four marathon without any training.
‘Fair enough, he said. ‘Well if that’s the ultimatum, riding a tandem bike, definitely!’
Each of the children were then handed a teddy bear of Gwen, the Welsh dragon, and a goodie bag featuring the Welsh cycling outfit, which were also handed to the Prince and Princess.
Olivia joked that William and Catherine could wear the outfits when they ride the tandem, prompting the Prince to joke, ‘You know me and Lycra!’
As he pulled the top out of the bag he held up a tiny shirt, having accidentally been given one of the children’s tops, prompting hearty laughter from the table.
‘I won’t whip the shorts out,’ he joked.
The family then thanked their hosts before heading home after a busy day out.

Kate, 44, was named last week by Tatler magazine as the ‘Best Dressed in Britain’ for 2026.
Today, she wore a smart green blazer over a cream and navy striped top with elegant pearl drop earrings and a pleated white skirt.
Inside the netball venue this afternoon, the Waleses sat amongst the Scottish Thistles, Scotland’s netball team, and posed for selfies with the squad.
George, Charlotte and Louis were delighted when TikTok sensation Mop Man made an appearance in the court at half time.
The dancer, who pretends to be a cleaner before breaking out into a routine, was met with cheers from the crowd and the royal children were seen pointing and smiling at the performance.
After the dramatic semi-final saw Jamaica win by a single point, Scottish swimmer Archie Goodburn, who has brain cancer, accompanied the family of five as they left the Hydro.
The sunshine briefly made an appearance as they were greeted by a line-up of 20 volunteers, and cheered on by the huge crowds gathered outside the gates as word spread that the royals would be heading outside.
As William, Catherine and George stopped to chat with three of the foam-finger clad volunteers, Charlotte and Louis made their acquaintance with the Games’ unicorn mascot, Finnie.
Charlotte, who appeared cold in her white and black polka dot dress, waved at the mascot and gave her a high five, prompting the character to jump in the air before offering her younger brother a high five as well.
Finnie then appeared to mimic a shivering Charlotte, before her father walked over and fist bumped the mascot.
Finnie blew Catherine a kiss and laughed as they too shared a fist bump before moving over to chat to two Gold Medallists.
The family later headed over to the Sir Chris Hoy velodrome to watch the cycling, where they were joined by the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and that man himself – Sir Chris Hoy.
Louis was seen grinning playfully as he fiddled with a bucket hat branded by the Welsh cycling team.
The games where medals are up for grabs today include the men’s and women’s boxing, para athlete and sprint cycling events at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, judo, athletics and netball.
Perhaps the most hotly-anticipated event of the whole tournament – the Men’s Mile – is also being raced on Saturday night.

Before the games began, William chatted to five Team Wales athletes – lawn and indoor bowler Ross Owen, blind para bowler Julie Thomas and her guide John Wilson, and weightlifters Madaline Connelly and Catrin Haf Jones – when he visited the London Welsh School in Hanwell, west London.
He will be competing against fellow Scotsman Jake Wightman and young buck Cameron Myers, the Australian who broke the world record for the fastest mile by a 16-year-old in 2023.

The Duchess of Edinburgh wore a Commonwealth Sport navy quarter-zip fleece as she visited the Team England house at The Social Hub in Glasgow on day nine of the games.
The couple spoke to staff and athletes at the trendy hybrid hospitality venue located in the Merchant City district.
On Thursday, Edward’s sister, Princess Anne, joined him and Sophie and enjoyed a day out at the Commonwealth Games watching the hurdles, triple jump and the decathlon.
Stylish Sophie opted for a summery linen blazer worn over a white top with khaki trousers, while the Duke was casual in a navy zip-up and polo.
Anne also later visited the Commonwealth offices – showing off a second, lighter denim jacket and blue scarf, shaking hands with staff.
The Firm members looked to be in good spirits as they enjoyed a sporty day out, often laughing and excitedly pointing at the action at the stadium.

The King and Queen had earlier arrived at the games by emerging from a Tardis at the Hydro arena in Glasgow during the opening ceremony, in scenes reminiscent of London 2012 when Queen Elizabeth II appeared to skydive into the Olympic Stadium alongside James Bond actor Daniel Craig.
The opening ceremony in Glasgow was the first to be held indoors as part of a radical restructuring of the games’ finances after Australian state Victoria withdrew as host of the event in 2023, citing spiralling costs.
The future of the event, which originated as the British Empire Games in 1930, was in doubt until Glasgow was convinced to step in and reprise its hosting role from 2014, albeit with significant alterations.
William and Kate will also spend time with athletes competing at the games whose careers have been empowered by the charity SportsAid.
Kate has supported the organisation as its patron since 2013, and will meet emerging talent taking part in the Team England Futures project on Saturday.
Sporting stars whose early promise was boosted by SportsAid include Sir Chris Hoy, Ellie Simmonds, Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill and Tom Daley.
Team England Futures has given talented young athletes and aspiring support staff the opportunity to attend the Glasgow games to gain behind-the-scenes experience in preparation for potential medal-winning performances as Team England, Team GB or Paralympics GB debutants.
The Commonwealth Games, held every four years, overcame disappointment at the start when nine top British athletes pulled out, saying they were prioritising the European Championships in Birmingham next month.
Heptathlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson and sprint star Dina Asher-Smith were the two leading lights to withdraw and they were joined by fellow Olympic medallists Matthew Hudson-Smith and Daryll Neita as well as 400m runner Amber Anning.
Hammer thrower Anna Purchase, middle distance runner Elliot Giles and sprinter Jona Efoloko also pulled out alongside steeplechaser Zac Seddon.
Thousands of fans have still attended the games this year – despite another earlier blow from the BBC, who did not cover the games for the first time in 72 years.
TNT Sports has the live UK broadcast rights, after owner Warner Bros Discovery paid a reported £5million, meaning the televised English-language coverage will only be accessible via an HBO subscription.
TalkSPORT also took over as the radio broadcast partner of the event, so there will be no such coverage on the BBC either.
The corporation reportedly tried to extend its broadcast partnership, which has lasted since 1954, but was outbid. It has made no secret about prioritising other events.
