A staff member at Carlton has taken personal leave and is considering his legal options after the club concluded their investigation into the Elijah Hollands saga.

Carlton’s head doctor Matt Chamberlain has taken personal leave and is considering his legal options in the Elijah Hollands case, according to AFL reporter Tom Morris.

The club concluded their own investigation into the saga and have submitted their findings to the AFL, who say they will be patient in their response.

Now Channel 7’s Morris has revealed Chamberlain has stepped aside and will be absent from the game against St Kilda.

“I can reveal tonight that their club doctor, a very respected medical professional, Dr Matt Chamberlain, took leave on the weekend, personal leave, as a result of this saga,” he reported on The Agenda Setters.

“I’ve spoken to the Blues – they couldn’t confirm that he would be back this weekend for Carlton’s game. They hope he’s back as soon as possible, but they couldn’t confirm that as well.

“I also understand that Chamberlain is considering his legal options should the AFL investigation come back in a way that dissatisfies him or potentially paints him in a light that he thinks is unfair.”

Meanwhile, the AFL is seeking further information after receiving the Carlton report according to journalist Damian Barrett.

However questions have been asked of Carlton’s in-house report on the Hollands incident, which was overseen by General Manager of Football Chris Davies.

“Probably the question for me is Chris Davies actually running this process – he is head of football, everybody who would need questions asked report into him,” said Jimmy Bartel on Footy Classified.

“You wonder why he is leading the charge considering there will need to be a lot of questions directed towards him, and his involvement on match day.

“I don’t know who else is part of the investigation but if it’s just solely him you’d like to have someone else.

“You need to challenge what was his part, how did he handle things? Did he get information? What is the chain of command?

“I’m not just making this completely a Carlton thing, because I think we all acknowledge we never want to see this happen again.

“You’ve actually really got to test what is going on and having a person who you have to test their reasoning and thinking who is then also writing the review, I’ve just got some question marks.”

Hollands and his brother Ollie were absent in the defeat to Freemantly on ANZAC Day, though the latter has since returned to training and could feature against St Kilda.
