A shock arrest has been made after an expat was found dismembered and dumped in landfill on a popular holiday island.

The dismembered body of a missing tourist has been discovered at a landfill site in Spain’s Canary Islands.
Katty Oosterlinck’s body was found by police at the Zurita rubbish dump in Puerto del Rosario, Fuerteventura on Friday.
Her 22-year-old son has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
The Belgian expat, 56, was reported missing on May 4 by friends and family who had not been able to contact her for days.
A frantic search was launched by local police and volunteers who scoured the island for any sign of the mum.
Four days later, Ms Oosterlinck’s body was uncovered by police at the Zurita waste processing facility.
Her son was arrested by the Spanish Guardia Civil’s Judicial Police in Las Palmas the same afternoon.

Cops swooped on the suspect after a day-long investigation. Police have reportedly reconstructed the events surrounding Ms Oosterlinck’s alleged murder.
Officers also visited her home in Corralejo and other locations possibly connected with the crime, local media reports.

Ms Oosterlinck’s body was transferred to the Institute of Legal Medicine of Las Palmas and will be examined to determine her cause of death.

Authorities have not yet revealed how she died, or the exact circumstances of the alleged crime.
The name of her son has also not been released as the investigation continues.
Further information is expected to be released after the autopsy.
Ms Oosterlinck lived in Corralejo, a town in Fuerteventura.
Spain’s expat community has been rocked by the horror incident, according to the Spanish Eye.
Many foreign residents closely followed news of the disappearance since appeals were launched earlier this week.

It comes after the dismembered body of a Colombian woman was discovered on a Gran Canaria beach last year.
Triana Arias, 41, previously texted a friend to say she was going to a party – but was not seen alive after that.
Her dismembered corpse was discovered by a local on Los Enanos Beach in San Andrés on April 27, 2025.
Local police later arrested the owner of a popular bar in Las Palmas for his alleged connection to the horrific murder.
