Samuel Robert Whitsed was originally reported missing from Victoria on February 14, and four days later was seen walking towards the Bibbulmun Track on Brookton Highway in Armadale, in Perth’s east.
The 27-year-old, from St Albans, has since been linked to abandoned hiking gear, including a green tent, at Canning Hut on the walking trail, which was reported by members of the public in late March.
The hut is about a 12 kilometre walk from the Brookton Campsite, located slightly off Brookton Highway in the Helena National Park.
Hikers reported seeing the gear as recently as late April.
Police on Tuesday confirmed inquiries into his disappearance were continuing.
“Armadale Police continue to make inquiries in relation to Mr Whitsed’s whereabouts,” a spokesperson said.
“Unfortunately he remains unaccounted for.”
Mr Whitsed is 170-180cm tall with a medium build, brown hair, a beard, a moustache, and has tattoos on his left arm.
Victoria Police in February said the family of Mr Whitsed were “concerned for his well being due to a medical condition”.
He was believed to have been carrying camping equipment and planning to stay on the Bibbulmun Track.
He was last seen wearing black trousers, a red t-shirt or light-coloured jumper, and slides.
