Talented Young Musician Talae Rodden Killed After Tree Falls on Car Near Mount Buller
Much-loved 27-year-old remembered as family and Victorian alpine communities mourn devastating loss
A rising young musician has been identified as the man who lost his life when a tree crashed onto a car near Victoria’s Mount Buller ski fields.
Talae Rodden, 27, was travelling with his mother, Sally Rodden, 64, along Mount Buller Road on Monday morning when tragedy struck. Sally was driving when a tree suddenly fell onto their vehicle at about 9.15am.
Emergency services, including life support paramedics, rushed to the scene following reports of the serious incident. Despite their efforts, Talae could not be saved and died at the scene.
His mother survived the impact but suffered serious upper-body injuries. She was transported to Wangaratta Hospital for treatment and was reported to be in a serious condition.
The sudden loss has devastated those who knew the Rodden family, particularly across the Merrijig and Mansfield communities, where they have longstanding connections.
A Life Closely Connected to Victoria’s Snow Fields
Talae and his brother grew up surrounded by Victoria’s alpine landscape, with their parents managing lodges on the mountain as well as operating a retail business in nearby Mansfield.
Those connections meant the family became familiar and much-loved members of the communities surrounding Mount Buller.
A GoFundMe established to support the family following the tragedy described the enormous shock being felt by friends and locals.
Organisers remembered Talae as a talented and deeply loved young man who was cherished not only by his relatives and friends, but also by the many people whose lives he touched.
His death, they said, has created an enormous absence across the communities that had been such an important part of his life.
Promising Musician Remembered
Beyond his strong connection to the Victorian snow fields, Talae was also building a future for himself through music.
The 27-year-old has been described as an up-and-coming musician whose talent and personality had earned him the affection of many around him.
News of his death has prompted an outpouring of grief as friends and community members attempt to process the sudden loss of a young man with so much of his life still ahead of him.
