If you’re a fellow film buff like me, constantly searching for something fresh on the small screen, you simply can’t miss BBC’s delightfully charming cozy crime drama: The Hairdresser Mysteries.

As someone who loves a good mystery paired with lighthearted relaxation, I was completely hooked from the very first episode. This six-part series follows Lily Petal (played by Bridget Jones star Sally Phillips), a hairdresser who leaves the bustling city behind to move to the picturesque rural village of Blossom Vale. Together with her bright assistant Clary Coombs (Charlotte Jordan), the duo unexpectedly becomes an amateur sleuthing pair solving the village’s quirkiness-filled crimes

From a long-time film fan’s perspective, here is why I completely fell in love with this show and want to recommend it to everyone right away:
* Nostalgic 70s aesthetics and style: You’ll be instantly drawn to Lily’s bright yellow classic convertible, patterned headscarves, and high-waisted flares. Every frame is packed with warmth and charm.
* Hilariously quirky mysteries: No dark, tense, or nerve-wracking scenes here. The cases in Blossom Vale are wonderfully lighthearted—ranging from a local spinster found dead alongside the disappearance of a priceless antique teacup, to a celebrity weather reporter meeting a grim fate after giving local shops poor reviews!
* A delightfully eccentric supporting cast: The show is stacked with eccentric characters, including the village gossip, a flamboyant charity shop manager, and even a Viking-themed fish and chip shop called Valhalla with Chips (where staff wear fake beards and horned hats!).
* Fantastic lead chemistry: The dynamic between Sally Phillips and Charlotte Jordan is a true highlight. Their natural acting and witty banter bring incredible positive energy to the screen.

What I love most about this show is how every episode wraps up. At the end of each case, the perpetrators usually express remorse, and the entire cast joins in a dance-along to 70s classics (ranging from Sister Sledge to T. Rex). Finishing an episode leaves you with such a warm, comfortable, and sweet feeling.
