A dam previously searched by divers looking for Gus Lamont will be drained to conduct a more comprehensive search.

Investigators will return for a fourth time to the remote property where August “Gus” Lamont went missing, as the search for the four-year-old entered its second month.

South Australia Police Commissioner Grant Stevens on Wednesday reaffirmed the force’s commitment to finding Gus.

“We will be going back to the property to conduct further searches based on further analysis of data and further advice,” he said.

“We are continuing to go back because we are still committed to recovering Gus, for the family and so everybody has some sense of closure in relation to exactly what’s occurred up at Yunta.”

Despite one of the largest search operations in South Australian history, Gus is still missing.

He vanished on September 27 from his family’s Oak Park Station near Yunta, in South Australia’s remote Mid North.

Gus was last seen playing on a dirt mound near a hill while his grandmother watched his younger brother, Ronnie. When she went to bring Gus inside 30 minutes later, he was gone.

The only clue uncovered so far is a single footprint found on September 30 — roughly 500m from where Gus was last seen.

Since then, hundreds of police officers, SES volunteers and Australian Army personnel have combed more than 60,000ha of rugged terrain assisted by drones and infrared technology, but no new leads have emerged.

“We have used these highly technical drones that collect data from the landscape but that data has to be analysed through an IT system,” Stevens said.

“I would expect that we will be deploying our investigators and our search experts up there as we process information that we’ve collected on previous visits.”

Police say there is no evidence anyone has harmed Gus.

“There is no evidence of foul play at this time but, as I’ve said publicly before, we are still open to any possibilities that might have resulted in Gus having gone missing,” Stevens said.

Last week, investigators drained a dam near the homestead, with more than 3.2 million litres of water pumped out at a rate of 15,000 litres per minute.

Divers also searched both that dam and a holding dam, clearing weed beds and combing the area — but found nothing of significance.

Gus is described as having long curly blond hair and was wearing a blue long-sleeved Minions T-shirt, a grey sun hat and boots when he went missing

Anyone with any information is urged to contact police.
