Peter Phillips and Harriet Sperling are married!

The eldest grandchild of the late Queen Elizabeth wed Harriet, a nurse, in a private ceremony on Saturday, June 6, at All Saints Church in Kemble, a village in the Cotswold district of Gloucestershire, England.

The nuptials were attended by members of the British royal family, including King Charles and Queen Camilla, Prince William and Kate Middleton, Prince Edward and Sophie, as well as Peter’s mother, Princess Anne and her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, and Peter’s sister, Zara Tindall, and her husband, Mike Tindall.

It was previously reported that Prince Harry, the former Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson were not among the invited guests.

It is the second marriage for both the bride and groom. Peter, 48, was married to Autumn Kelly from 2008 to 2021, and the pair shares two daughters: Savannah, 15, and Isla, 14. Harriet was previously married to fitness instructor Antonio St. John Sperling, with whom she shares a 13-year-old daughter, Georgina. The three young women were seen together while attending the Easter church service with the royal family in April.

With the wedding, Peter became the first of Queen Elizabeth’s eight grandchildren to remarry. (Five others are currently married, while the two youngest — Lady Louise and James, Earl of Wessex — have not yet tied the knot.)

Peter may be the first in his generation of the British royal family to divorce and get married for a second time, but there is precedent. Three of Queen Elizabeth’s four children divorced their first spouse, with two going on to remarry.

Peter’s mother, Princess Anne, married Mark Phillips in 1973 and welcomed Peter and his sister, Zara, before the pair divorced in 1992. The Princess Royal went on to remarry Sir Tim Laurence, who had been working as an equerry for the Queen, in a small ceremony in December 1992 in Scotland. The nuptials were a small affair, with only about 30 guests in attendance, but Prince Philip walked his daughter, “dressed in a simple white suit with white blossoms in her hair,” according to the BBC, down the aisle.

King Charles and Queen Camilla’s marriage was also the second for both of them. Charles was married to Princess Diana for 15 years, from their wedding on July 29, 1981, to the finalization of their divorce in 1996, while Camilla had two children with her first husband, Andrew Parker Bowles.

Charles and Camilla tied the knot in April 2005. Their couple’s wedding ceremony — which took place near Windsor Castle, but not on royal grounds — was intimate, with only 28 guests, including Prince William, Prince Harry and Camilla’s two children. Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip did not attend the wedding ceremony itself. As head of the Church of England, the Queen ultimately decided that it was not appropriate for her to be at the wedding of two people who had each divorced their previous partners. However, they were present for the Service of Prayer and Dedication at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle afterward and held a reception for the couple.
