She was allegedly stabbed 20 times before she was airlifted to hospital.
A young NSW woman has been found with critical stab wounds in a car alongside two children who were unharmed.
Victoria, 26, was in the passenger seat of a white SUV which was pulled over by police on Baradine Rd at Coonamble, in the state’s central west, on Sunday.
“She had suffered over 20 machete stab wounds, along with three broken ribs, a punctured lung, and significant facial injuries,” her family said in a statement about the “brutal and traumatic” alleged attack.
A four-year-old child and an 18-month-old toddler were also found in the car without physical injury.
Police had pursued the car hours earlier but called an end to the chase for safety reasons about 2am.
They finally stopped the car at 11am and tasered the alleged driver.
The 28-year-old man had been armed with a machete, NSW Police said.
He was taken to Coonamble Multi-Purpose Health Services for assessment under police guard and then taken to Coonamble Police Station.
He was charged with driving offences and wound person intend to cause grievous bodily harm (domestic violence).
The 28-year-old man was refused bail at a bedside hearing at Bail Division Court 4. He is next due to face court on July 14.
Victoria was airlifted to hospital where she remains in a stable condition.
“Doctors have also identified suspected nerve damage affecting her feet, which may have long-term impacts on her mobility,” her family said.
They said she faces “unimaginable trauma” and that “Victoria’s recovery will be long and complex.”
“The emotional toll of what she has endured will take immense time, care, and support to heal.”
A GoFundMe has been set up to support Victoria’s recovery.
