Kumanjayi Little Baby’s grandmother Peggy Granites said the five-year-old’s alleged murderer Jefferson Lewis was never considered a threat to the family.
Ms Granites told the Daily Mail she had known her granddaughter’s alleged murderer for years.
When asked whether she believed he ever posed a threat, Ms Granites said she never imagined such a tragedy would unfold.
“Never, never, never,” she told the Daily Mail.

“No one thought that at all. No one thinks anyone can do that.”
The body of Kumanjayi Little Baby was found on Thursday, more than four days after she was allegedly abducted from her home on Saturday night.
Police allege Lewis, 47, entered a room at the Old Timers Aboriginal Town Camp in Alice Springs, where the five-year-old was sleeping.
He was later seen holding hands with the girl at about 11pm on Saturday
Kumanjayi Little Baby’s father was in custody when he was informed his daughter’s body had been found.
“He is just so devastated,” Ms Granites said.
“He is so upset and just wants to be here with his family.”
After leaving the compound that the family called home for seven years, Kumanjayi Little Baby’s mother, Jacinta, and grandmother on her father’s side, Karen White, say they will not return.
Ms White told Daily Mail she “cannot go back” to the home she once shared with her “beautiful” granddaughter.

“It’s too much. I cannot go back there,” Ms Granite told the Daily Mail.
“She was just so beautiful, and such a good girl, and I miss her.”
Jacinta is currently staying in a safe house, while Ms White and her grandson are living with friends before relocating to their hometown of Yuendumu.
Lewis was taken into custody about 9.30pm on Thursday after he was located at a residence in Alice Springs.
Lewis had earlier attended Charles Creek Camp where he was beaten by a group of vigilantes, according to reports.
He was taken to Alice Springs Hospital for treatment before he was later evacuated to Darwin.
