An Alabama woman who spent her Mother’s Day looking for her missing teenage son says she found his charred, dismembered body in the woods the following day.

Markavious “Mark” Rumph, 18, was reported missing after he was last seen at a gas station Eufaula, Ala., on May 6, the Eufaula Alabama Police Department said in a statement.

On Monday, May 11, police confirmed they found human remains on a nearby road, but did not name the victim.

Rumph was identified as the victim by his family in a GoFundMe, as well as in local news outlet WRBL.

Rumph’s family told WRBL that he was last seen leaving with a friend. (The outlet reported he was last seen on May 7.)

When he did not return to his grandmother’s, Rumph’s family grew concerned and began their own search, with the help of volunteers, that spanned five days.

His mother Yolanda Wynn told the outlet of her family’s heartbreaking search for her son, who is now being remembered as the life of the party.

“Me and my family in the rain on Mother’s Day, I walked through those woods,” she said, per the outlet.

She further alleged to WRBL that she received no assistance from Eufaula police; PEOPLE has reached out to the Eufaula Police Department for their response to Wynn’s claim.

The teen’s grieving father told the outlet the suspect “burned my baby, shot my baby, burned him up and chopped him up.”

A GoFundMe has been set up to assist Rumph’s parents with funeral expenses, therapy and daily living expenses.

“Mark was an 18-year-old with a bright future ahead of him,” read part of the fundraiser. “He had recently obtained his GED and was truly aiming for the stars, inspiring those around him with his determination and hope.”

He was planning to attend welding school, his father told WRBL. “He was the life of the party. He was gonna make you laugh,” he added.
