Horrifying CCTV has captured the moment a man was dragged almost 1km down the road – leaving him hospitalised – during a carjacking attempt in Sydney’s southwest.

Detectives are currently appealing for information following the alleged carjacking, along River Rd in the suburb of Elderslie, about 5.30pm on Sunday.

A 43-year-old man was driving his silver-coloured Holden Statesman Caprice sedan when he was allegedly assaulted by a man who stole his car.

7News reports the man was dragged at least 800m down the road after his clothes became caught in the vehicle while fighting the carjacker.

The moment was captured on CCTV, with the man clinging to the passenger-side front door as the car speeds down the road.

The broadcaster reports police were alerted when the bloodied man stumbled into the Camden Fruit Barn shop.

Owners Steven Gugliotti and Chris Oliverio told 7News they were confronted by the horror sight while closing up for the day.

“The man’s walked up here and he was bleeding and he didn’t look well,” the pair said.

“We weren’t obviously sure what was happening but we knew there was obviously a problem.

NSW Police said the man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to hospital for further treatment.
