“(I’m) very hurt, lost for words really, especially to leave someone on the side of the road like that,” she said.

The 41-year-old was riding an e-scooter on Scott street in Melton in Melbourne just after midnight today.

She was hit by a small white sedan turning left onto Swan Street but the driver fled.

Sergeant Emile Caggiati called the incident “appalling”.

“Any motorist who leaves a scene where someone needs assistance – that behaviour is just deplorable,” she said.

Neighbours gave Kerr first aid on the road.

She was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital where she is fighting for her life.

Road police are also appealing to e-scooter and bike riders to take extra precautions to help prevent any more tragedy.

“Wear a helmet. If you’re travelling at night, make sure you’ve got lights operating, maybe wear some reflective gear so drivers can see you,” Caggiati said.

Kerr is in an induced coma and is not well enough for her children to be able to see her despite it being Mother’s Day.

“It’s horrible some kids are now celebrating Mother’s Day with their mother in hospital,” Caggiati said.

“All we can hope for is that she makes a full recovery.”
