THIS is the terrifying moment a plane smashes into a paraglider and shreds her parachute to pieces as she screams and spirals through the sky.

Sabrina, 44, was flying over the beautiful Schmittenhöhe mountain in Austria when the freak collision occurred.

Harrowing footage shows the wing of the plane slice directly through her canopy – the only thing keeping the woman from plummeting to her death many feet below.

The small sightseeing plane only narrowly missed striking Sabrina when it ploughed into her parachute mere feet over her head.

The thin canopy was completely sliced in half and spiralled in tatters around her as the 44-year-old desperately tried to release her emergency parachute.

In a heart-stopping save, Sabrina was able to untangle herself and deploy the new chute as she plunged towards earth.

Her quick thinking likely saved her life.

In a post on Instagram, Sabrina gushed: “I actually still can’t believe that I’m sitting here typing this—and that, aside from a few nasty bruises and some general contusions, absolutely nothing happened”.

She was picked up by a police helicopter and taken to the local airport.

The small plane also landed safely at Zell am See Airport, according to officials.

The pilot, a 28-year-old man, claimed that there was no way he could have avoided the paraglider.

It follows the horror death of a tourist in a paragliding accident in Spain just months ago.

Cristina Colturi was paragliding with a certified instructor when the pair fatally crashed into a rocky area near the tourist beach of La Enramada in Costa Adeje, Tenerife.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, but Cristina was already in cardiac arrest when they got to her.

She was taken to hospital where she tragically died of her injuries two days later.

Her boyfriend had bought her the paragliding experience as Christmas gift.
