Following the agonizing week-long silence since 15-year-old Ja’Derrius Minnieweather vanished without a trace, the search efforts for the missing teenager have received a significant boost. The United Cajun Navy, a renowned volunteer organization, has officially confirmed its participation in the search campaign, coordinating with local authorities to scour every potential lead that might remain.
An Unrelenting Search Mission

Since June 5, all contact with Ja’Derrius has been severed, leaving a haunting vacuum of information for both his family and local law enforcement. The arrival of the United Cajun Navy not only provides a glimmer of hope but also extends the search perimeter to complex terrains that standard efforts may have struggled to navigate effectively.
Detailing the group’s tactical approach, Josh Gill, the United Cajun Navy’s incident commander, explained that the team is maximizing efforts to secure and search desolate or challenging locations: “We’re going to hit some wooded areas. We’re going to hit some properties, some abandoned properties as well, look around some high traffic areas that are wooded areas.”
A Mobilization of Over One Hundred Volunteers
According to reports, the most recent sweep coordinated by Gill successfully mobilized more than 100 dedicated volunteers. This team has spared no effort in systematically searching a series of strategic locations across Baton Rouge—from bridge spans and major highway thoroughfares to dense, overgrown woodlands that are believed to potentially hold critical evidence. Gill also underscored the necessity of maintaining heightened vigilance within the community, urging the residents of Baton Rouge to continue their collective efforts and contribute any information that might accelerate the recovery process.
Vital Identification Details
The Baton Rouge Police Department has released specific identification markers for Ja’Derrius to facilitate public awareness. The teenager has brown eyes, a slender build, standing at 5 feet tall, and weighing 98 pounds. At the time of his disappearance on June 5, Ja’Derrius was noted to be wearing black sweatpants, a gray and black shirt, and a distinct pair of red Nike slippers.
To encourage the public to come forward with valuable information, the Capital Region Crime Stoppers has established a dedicated tip line at (225) 344-7867. Police have reaffirmed that all individuals reaching out to the hotline are guaranteed absolute anonymity. Furthermore, to incentivize investigative progress, a cash reward may be offered to those who provide direct tips leading to the discovery of the teenager’s whereabouts. In these breath-taking hours, the collaboration between the local community and search organizations like the United Cajun Navy remains the sole hope for bringing Ja’Derrius home to his family.
