King Charles Set for Special Balmoral Ceremony — But Something About Today’s Event Is Raising Questions
A Guard of Honour from the Balaklava Company, 5th Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland, will welcome the King at Balmoral’s formal arrival ceremony today.
The monarch serves as Colonel-in-Chief of the regiment.
The Pipes and Drums of the 2nd Battalion will provide musical accompaniment.
The King has had a packed schedule in Scotland throughout August, taking in the Castle of Mey Games, visiting the Assynt Mountain Rescue team, and spending time in Halkirk and Castletown.

He also opened a distillery in a restored former mill building.
A distinctive element of today’s ceremony is the presence of the first two members of the newly revived Balmoral Highlanders, positioned outside the castle’s front gate.
The King personally re-established the group, which had been dissolved in 1936 during the reign of his great-grandfather, George V.

The kilts and plaids feature the Balmoral Glen Gelder tartan, a pattern created by The Scottish Tartans Authority at the King’s request.
