King Charles is feeling “excited” about one aspect of Prince Harry’s UK return, a former royal butler has said. A week on from The Duke and Duchess of Sussex relocating back to Britain with their children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, a former royal butler has shared how King Charles is likely to be feeling.

While he has not worked for the King since 2011, having served His Majesty for six years when he was The Prince of Wales, ex royal butler Grant Harrold knew the King well. By working for him, Harrold saw what Charles was like both publicly and privately, as well as a number of other royals. He has now revealed to the Daily Express that he thinks the King will be “excited” about the Sussex family being back in Britain, mainly so he can get to know his grandchildren better.

Speaking to the Daily Express on behalf of Press Box PR, Grant Harrold said: “Like any grandparent, the King will be very excited to have Archie and Lilibet close again. He hasn’t had a chance to really see them grow up, so he will be very happy to play a larger role in their lives.

“I imagine it’s been very hard for him to know how much he’s missed out on. He would never have wanted to be an absent grandparent.

“He’s a very caring man and his family means a lot to him. All things aside, he would want to play an active role in his grandchildren’s lives.

“He wouldn’t want them growing up having questions, so this move is very important to the King.”

King Charles is not believed to have seen the family since they landed in Britain on their private jet last week.

The family flew into Birmingham, where they were then taken by car to their new private home. The location of their home has not been disclosed for security reasons, it is not in London.

Harry, 41, and Meghan, 45, are believed to be privately renting the property they now call home, with their children enrolled at a nearby school. They are keeping their mansion in Montecito, California.

The UK return will not see Harry and Meghan become working royals again. The motive behind their move remains unclear, with rumours suggesting Harry simply wants to be close to the King, while other rumours suggest Meghan has secured a UK-based acting job.

King Charles has not publicly commented on Harry’s return to Britain.
