Prince Harry attended the TIME100 Sports Gala in New York City on Thursday evening, where he shared his disappointment over England’s World Cup elimination.
The Duke of Sussex, appearing solo without Meghan Markle, confirmed his heartbreak when questioned about the Three Lions’ semi-final defeat to Argentina in Atlanta.
“Of course!” the 41-year-old responded when asked if he was saddened by the result.
The gala marked Harry’s first public appearance following a week-long visit to Britain promoting the Invictus Games.

He was recognised among TIME’s 100 Most Influential People in Sports 2026, receiving honours in the leaders category alongside sporting figures including LeBron James and Lindsey Vonn.
England had taken the lead in Wednesday’s semi-final when Anthony Gordon found the net 55 minutes into the contest.
Thomas Tuchel’s squad maintained their advantage until the closing stages, when the match turned dramatically in Argentina’s favour.
Enzo Fernandez struck from distance with just five minutes remaining to level the score.

William urged the players to “hold your heads high” despite falling short against their bitter rivals.
The heir to the throne described himself as “gutted” that Tuchel’s men could not secure a place in the showpiece final.

“Sport held me together,” he told TIME. “I was one of those kids at school who did not enjoy classroom work.”
He added: “If it wasn’t for the sports field, and the amount of sports that were on offer, there’s no way I would have stayed in school.”
The Duke was honoured for his founding of the Invictus Games, the international competition for wounded, injured and sick military personnel.
Birmingham will host next summer’s edition of the Games, with approximately 550 competitors from around 25 nations set to participate.
