Two people are fighting for life after a house went up in flames south of Brisbane.

The fire broke out at a home on Melville Dr in Brassall, Ipswich, shortly before emergency services were called about 4.15am on Tuesday.

A man and a woman, both in aged in their 60s, were treated by paramedics at the home before they were rushed to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, both in a life threatening condition.

Four other people, a woman and three children, were assessed by paramedics with no injuries and declined transport.

Police also rescued a dog, believed to be uninjured, from the fire.

“We just heard a loud bang,” one neighbor told 7NEWS.

“Then I look outside and I saw all these ambulance and fire trucks.

“It was scary but we were lucky, it didn’t affect us that bad, we’re just happy that the kids are safe.”

The Queensland Fire Department said four crews were sent out to tackle the blaze, with the fire already “well involved” when they arrived at the property.

The fire was brought under control about 4.45am, they said, with specialist investigators heading to the home later today to help determine what started the inferno.
