The alleged driver of a stolen luxury car remains under police guard in hospital after a Melbourne crime spree ended in a head-on collision.
The ordeal began around 9.20pm on Friday when police responded to reports of a violent carjacking in Bentleigh, a suburb in Melbourne’s south-east.

The victim had just reversed into his driveway when he was confronted by a group of men, one armed with a machete.
The group allegedly threatened the homeowner before stealing his white Porsche, causing him to fall and suffer minor injuries.
Over the next several hours, multiple police units spotted the Porsche being driven dangerously and at high speeds across Melbourne’s western and southern suburbs.
At approximately 2:10am on Saturday, police spotted the vehicle again on EastLink in the city’s east, speeding with its headlights off.
The Porsche, driving on the wrong side of the road, collided with a van. Victoria Police
Officers initiated a pursuit after the driver refused to pull over.
The vehicle sped through the Melba Tunnel toward a roadworks’ closure on the Eastern Freeway at Springvale Road.
Police called off the pursuit moments after the stolen car made a U-turn ahead of the roadworks, driving directly into oncoming traffic and colliding with a van.
Both drivers were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The alleged driver of the Porsche had to be extracted from the wreckage and was rushed to hospital under police guard, where he remains as investigations continue.
