The heartbroken family of 19-year-old Joey Gregory have issued an appeal for help and have urged their boy to “keep fighting”.

A horrific house fire broke out on Redcar Road in Blackpool on June 30 which also left a 13-year-old boy in a serious condition in hospital.

Joey was taken to the burns intensive care unit at Wythenshawe Hospital, South Manchester, according to an update on Facebook.

His mum posted: “We were told on Tuesday that the first 24-48 hours were critical.

“Then they said 72… We are on day five and my boy is still here.

“Keep fighting sunshine, we ain’t going nowhere.

“We are so lucky to have such amazing family & friends.

“My boy is so loved. I don’t know where we are finding the strength from.

“Please keep praying.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Joey’s family.

It revealed the teenager had undergone emergency treatment and had been placed in a medically induced coma.

The page said: “He remains on a ventilator while specialist teams do everything they can to save his life.

“His injuries are extensive, and the road ahead will be unimaginably long and difficult.”

It added that Joey’s life had “changed forever” on the day of the fire, saying his family are now “facing the unimaginable”

So far, more than £10,500 has been raised.

The statement read: “We’re asking for help to ease some of the financial burden during this incredibly challenging time.

“Every donation, no matter how small, will help with everyday living costs, travel, accommodation if needed, and allow Joey’s family to focus on what matters most – being there for him as he fights for his life.”

The Blackpool blaze broke out at around 9.37am and five fire engines and a command support unit attended.

Fire crews used breathing apparatus, hose reels and a jet to extinguish the fire.

Police said at the time a boy and a teenager were left in a “serious condition” and three other people suffered minor injuries.

Anyone wishing to contribute to the appeal can do so here.
