Two elderly people have been taken to hospital after a head-on collision between two cars on the Sydney Harbour Bridge caused major traffic delays this afternoon.
Two elderly people have been taken to hospital after a head-on collision on the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Police said reports of a two-car crash came in about 2.15pm on Tuesday, with emergency services being sent to the scene.

Four people were reported to be in the two cars with collided, with three of them believed to be initially trapped.
They have seen been freed from their cars and treated by paramedics.

Two people, in their 70s and 80s, have been transported to St Vincent’s Hospital in Paddington.
The condition of the third injured person was still being assessed at 3pm.
Four fire trucks attended the scene but have now left.

NSW Fire and Rescue reported extensive traffic delays in the area, with police warned the motorists that road closures were in place and delays were expected going into peak hour.
About 2.30pm, traffic was affected in lanes two, three and four northbound on the bridge, plus one southbound, and traffic was slow heading into the city.
Motorists travelling Northbound via the Cahill Expressway were stranded for kilometers back to the Western Distributor while emergency crews worked.
By 3.20pm all four lanes had reopened.
Police officers from the City of Sydney area command have begun an investigation into the crash.

Three elderly people have been hospitalised after a head-on crash involving two vehicles on Sydney’s iconic Harbour Bridge.
Emergency services were called to the bridge at 2.12pm on Tuesday following reports of the crash.
NSW Ambulance said four people were involved in the crash, with one person declining assessment.
A 72-year-old man suffered a chest injury and was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital while a 76-year-old woman was taken to the same hospital with a spinal injury.
An 88-year-old woman was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital with a chest injury.
All three patients were in a stable condition.

The crash, on the southern side of the bridge, closed three northbound lanes, before they reopened later.

However, traffic heading towards the Harbour Bridge remained heavy from the Anzac Bridge, as well as on the Cahill Expressway over Circular Quay and through the Domain Tunnel.
The Transport Management Centre said some outbound bus services were delayed by up to 20 minutes.
Motorists and bus passengers are advised to allow plenty of extra travel time until traffic conditions returned to normal.
