A new photo from Facebook shows the Siders family years before the four adults were arrested over the alleged abuse of 16 children kept in a “house of horrors,” all in a small Ohio town.

It’s unclear if Gary Siders Jr. the small baby pictured on his mother’s lap, decades before they were handcuffed in Hamden, Ohio, last week, after police walked into a crumbling home where 16 children were kept in a 12 x 12 room filled with trash and feces. In the photo posted by the grandmother, Christina Siders, 66, who was also arrested alongside her husband, Gary Siders, 73, the young couple was enjoying a sunny day. Other photos reveal a totally normal family through the decades, from a family photo showing their children to a 2023 throwback of the elderly couple, who looked clean and were smiling.

The Siders’ sixteen children were rescued from their squalid, crumbling family home, where they were “kept in worse conditions than livestock” last week. The children’s mother, Elizabeth Siders, 33, was also arrested along with the grandparents, and her husband, Gary Siders Jr, now 36. It comes as mom-of-16 Elizabeth made a disturbing demand as she begged to be freed from jail.

Elizabeth’s family has claimed to have lost touch with her after she married Gary Siders Jr. when she was 15-years-old, and he was 18. Elizabeth was seven months pregnant at the time of their wedding, which took place in West Virginia. At the time, the state only required parental permission and did not investigate the pregnant teen’s situation.

The mother, Elizabeth, has lived with the Siders since she was 15-years-old, with Gary and Christina moving with the couple all over Ohio over nearly two decades.

Officials say Elizabeth and Gary’s children, now aged between 18 months and 18 years old, “looked like feral animals.” They were discovered by the Vinton County Sheriff’s Office in Ohio on Tuesday morning while executing a search warrant linked to an ongoing investigation.

Deputies were confronted with a horrifying scene, finding all the children confined to a dilapidated three-and-a-half square meter structure covered in human waste. The shocking conditions, which the children reportedly suffered through for four years, were branded “pure evil” by Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson.

Wilson stated the children existed in “conditions you cannot even imagine people being in, let alone children being in.”

He noted that several of the children couldn’t communicate verbally, and investigators discovered that an 18-year-old at the property was unable to write her own name. Wilson said: “It was terrible. They looked like almost feral animals. It was terrible.”

The mother, Elizabeth, argued from jail that the older children had access to phones and social media, despite no school records in any county showing that the children were enrolled in some type of education.

Seven of the children were immediately transported to Columbus hospitals, with two needing emergency airlift. Wilson revealed that one child remained in critical condition on Tuesday, while the others were receiving medical care.

The four suspects have no previous connection to the region, and detectives believe they have been continuously moving to prevent the establishment of medical and governmental documentation. “These folks were pretty good at hiding these kids,” Wilson said.

The four accused appeared in the Vinton County Court of Common Pleas on Wednesday morning and are being held on $300,000 bail. The grandfather, Gary Siders, was released this week due to a medical condition. He was sent to a medical facility with a GPS tracker.

It comes as stomach-churning photos revealed the inside of the Siders family’s home from hell.
