New details are coming out about the mother who killed her four kids, and then herself, including a chilling final text in which she told her ex-husband the children were suffering from a “little stomach bug.”
Sarah Myers, 44, and her 64-year-old mother, Amy Steadman, have been accused of killing her four children — Harper, 13, Hudson, 11, and twin Gavin and Gracelyn, 10 — in June. Myers, Steadman, and the four children were found dead in their Mechanicville, New York, home on June 23 after a welfare check.
According to Steadman’s ex-husband, Brady Harmon, the day of the suspected murder-suicide, he was supposed to have a scheduled video call with the children. However, Myers asked if the call could be postponed as the children had fallen ill.
Harmon replied by wishing the kids a speedy recovery and asking whether they could reschedule the call. However, despite texts the next day, he received no response.

“I cannot understand how anyone could claim that this was done to ‘save’ my children from harm,” Harmon wrote in a post on Facebook. “The greatest possible harm was done to them. They were terrified, betrayed, and robbed of their lives by the very people who were supposed to protect them.”
According to Mechanicville Police Department Chief William Rabbitt, the murder-suicide had been planned as far back as June 5, with the mother-daughter duo planning the killings via text messages. Investigators also reportedly found handwritten notes in which the women confessed to the killings with the motive to keep the children away from their dad, who lives in Utah.
Claims of abuse by Myers and Steadman were not immediately verified by authorities, and the father denied any such allegations.
Harmon says he separated from Myers in November 2019, and prior to the killings, he was preparing to pick up the kids for “first parenting time in six and a half years.” In separate texts, Harmon and Myers discussed the children’s scheduled flights, interests, and child support ahead of his visit, which had been scheduled from July 1 to Sept. 1.
He said from their conversations, he got no indication of what Myers and her mother were allegedly planning.

“I believe the truth would have begun coming out once they were safely with me,” Harmon, who had spent years seeking custody or visitation from the children, said. They would have experienced the loving side of their family, which they had been separated from and taught to fear. Instead of allowing that relationship to be restored, the people responsible chose to permanently silence four innocent children.”
According to Rabbitt, Steadman, and Myers had purchased sleeping aids and prescription medications at pharmacies in the days leading up to the murders. In one of the communications, the pair discussed how the pills were not working on the children.
“Those communications are important because they document far more than planning. They show that Steadman and Myers were communicating and coordinating while the murders were taking place,” Rabbitt told reporters.
